Checking your pets sleeping respiratory rate.
For pets who may be at risk of developing heart failure it is useful to monitor their sleeping respiratory (breathing) rate at home. This should be done before consultation and daily in pets with managed heart failure.

Sleeping respiratory rate for dogs and cats should be less than 30 breaths per minute. Breathing rates above 30bpm suggest a need for assessment which may be urgent. There are several Apps that can be used to record sleeping respiratory rate and we recommend the free Cardalis App to monitor breathing in cats and dogs.
