Pet owners
Many animals, like people, can have heart problems. Heart murmurs, or abnormal heart sounds, are common in apparently healthy cats and dogs, however not all heart murmurs are a cause for concern.
Specialists at what we do
We care for dogs and cats with heart problems.
Unfortunately diagnosing and managing heart disease can be difficult and requires specialist skills and equipment.
Your vet may recommend we assess your pet because they have noticed a heart murmur or an irregular heart-beat. Sometimes it may be because you or your vet are concerned that your pet is obviously unwell.
We can help manage conditions including myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM); hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and congenital heart disease in young animals.
Review, examine, investigate & recommend
We will examine your pet with you, discussing any specific concerns you have. We will usually perform a heart scan or echocardiogram. This is quick, non-invasive and painless. Most pets don’t require sedation.
Sometimes we may recommend other investigations. Investigations can include blood pressure, blood sample, ECG, Holter ECG and x-rays. In some cases we may recommend your pet is transferred to another hospital for emergency care, advanced treatment or investigations.
A local service to minimise stress
It’s helpful to have local expert advice for both owners and their vets.
We understand it’s reassuring to have face to face contact and ongoing support. By providing a service locally, sometimes in your own vets, we can minimise travel and stress - and offer a more convenient service. Our clinics make it easier to access consistent ongoing care for pets with heart disease.
Sometimes we can offer reassurance that a concern is not serious. At other times we can guide you through the options for managing your pet.
Whatever the concern Brighton Veterinary Cardiology can help you care for your pet and provide the best possible treatment for pets with heart disease.
Satellite clinics for specific surgeries
We offer satellite clinics for clients of specific surgeries in in East and West Sussex.
Depending on where we see you we may recommend further care or treatment following transfer to another hospital. Complex cases in which there is concern regarding non cardiac illness may benefit from being seen at a multidisciplinary centre.
To book an appointment speak to your vet. Referral must be arranged by your veterinary surgeon.
We are unable to provide advice on pets we have not examined.
